How to Un-Gunk your Mod Podge

Mod Podge is the essential crafter's supply.  I use it for everything.

But sometimes, it's gross.  Sorry Mod Podge, but you know it to be true.

It doesn't take long for that expensive jar of gooey goodness to turn
lumpy/clumpy/ooey/gooey/ gunky/chunky and just plain gross.

My friend Natalie and I discovered a much better solution than discovering a giant boogie looking chunk on your project and frantically trying to brush it away.

Here's what you need:
  • Gunky Mod Podge
  • Plastic cup
  • Piece of tulle or other fine mesh fabric
  • Masking tape

Step 1:  Cover top of cup with tulle and tape around the top of the cup.

Step 2:  Slowly pour your Mod Podge through the mesh.
Your gloppy chunks will get caught in the mesh.
Step 3:  Carefully remove tape and bunch the tulle around the chunks.  Lightly squeeze to get any of the remaining good Mod Podge to drip out.
Step 4:  Rinse out your Mod Podge jar to get any chunks that are stuck inside.  Pour Mod Podge back into jar.

Your Mod Podge has now been restored to its former non-gunky beautiful self.

Happy Crafting!

  1. Thanks! I use Mod Podge all the time & thought the chunkies were just part of the deal. But now I can get rid of them! I have some left over polyester window screen fabric that would be perfect to use to unchunk my Mod Podge. Thanks! And I'm pinning this because surely there are more chunkie dodgers out there that will be glad to have this info! :D
